Dynamo Reach MLS Cup with 4-2 Aggregate Over D.C. United

Dominic Kinnear has once again taken a team to the MLS Cup. This will be Kinnear’s fourth trip to the Cup as his Houston Dynamo beat D.C. United convincingly.  Perhaps United was over-matched with too many injuries.    but another Dynamo goal in leg two all but sealed their fate.  The Dynamo will have the possibility to avenge their loss last year to the LA Galaxy after tonight’s second leg of the Western Conference Final.

The 3-1 advantage heading into RFK Stadium for Houston would have allowed them to sit back and pack it in.  They

went for the kill as Boniek Garcia tucked in his first playoff goal in the 34th minute.  The nifty pass from Brad Davis gave him 100 assists, just the 8th player with 100 regular season/playoffs assists.

The match would end all square at one after a Branko Boskovic goal.  United did bring on Dwayne De Rosario in the second half with 30 minutes remaining, but the return of the captain was too little, too late.  The drawn did run United’ home unbeaten streak to 18 matches.  Ben Olsen has his team on the right track and this D.C. squad will be tough in 2013.

Houston now waits to see if Seattle can overcome a large deficit of their own or if a rematch with the Galaxy will take place.  Regardless, the Dynamo will have to travel to their competitor’s stadium for the final on December 1.
