12/18 Soccer News And Notes: Diskerud, MLS Home Openers

Last week we shared information that it looked like Caleb Porter was going to sway Mikkel “Mix” Diskerud into coming to play for the Portland Timbers.  Over the last week it seems like negotiations have stalled and Diskerud is still looking for a new club.  CEO Merritt Paulson followed the young player on twitter and then unfollowed him a few days later.  Messages from Diskerud were put on the BigSoccer Community to clarifying where the player stands.  If you can wade through the translation, it seems like Diskerud has put the power in the hands of his current team, Rosenberg.  It would seem that Mix wants to return to Rosenberg or leave Norway, but that is safe talk from a player with an uncertain future.  We shall see how this ends after the holidays.

Major League Soccer announced the 2013 home open

ers today with the rest of the schedule coming in a couple weeks.  The season begins on March 2nd and 3rd highlighted by Houston heading to D.C. and San Jose visiting a new look Real Salt Lake.  Dallas will have to wait until March 23 to have their home opener against New England.  New York travels to D.C. on March 16th in one of the better match ups in the early weeks.

In action today Oguchi Onyewu scored a late equalizer for Malagá in Copa Del Rey action.  Jermaine Jones and Schalke were eliminated from DFB Pokal competition losing to Mainz 2-1.  Jones received a yellow going the full match against Shawn Parker and a surging Mainz squad.  Jozy Altidore helped Alkmaar win 4-2 with his 15th across all competitions.  Check out the nice piece of dribbling here.

Raymond Domenech apparently wants to coach Altidore as he stated he would love to coach the USMNT.  He is the former manager of the French National Team.  I am not sure the U.S. is looking.

Brian Straus has given us a nice two part series on current coach Jurgen Klinsmann.  The first part gives you a look why he coaches the way he does with a more holistic approach.     The second part takes a look at building chemistry.  This is a really good read to get a glimpse at Klinsmann’s decision making.

Here are a few other notes from twitter.
