DaMarcus Beasley scored the second and third goals for Puebla in their 3-1 victory over San Luis last night. He entered the game in the 57th minute. His first goal came on a cross that he chested down and floated over the keeper. The second was off a break that looked to be triggered by a possible foul. He interchanged with his attacking partner then struck the clear finish. Michael Orozco Fiscal went the distance in the midfield for Puebla in the victory but did earn a yellow card. Club Tijuana fell in the standings losing to a nine man Club America team 2-1. Rubens Sambueza and Aquivaldo Mosquera were given red before half time but were able to score the game winner in the 53rd minute and hold on to give Xolos their first loss on the season. Edgar Castillo played 57 minutes for Tijuana while Joe Corona was subbed in at the 66th minute mark registering three shots, but only one on target.
Jose Torres went 80 for Tigres as they recaptured the top of the table with a 4-1 over Toluca. Tigres and Cruz Azul are the only two teams in Liga MX without a loss. In the Liga MX finale for the week Herculez Gomez led Santos Laguna with three shots on target but they were unable to beat Pachuca keeper Rodolfo Cota. Pachuca jump Santos Laguna in the table with the 1-0 victory.
In England Clint Dempsey went the full match for Tottenham as the lone striker. He showed well despite it being his third full 90 in a week with flights to Miami, Honduras, and back shoved in there. The 2-1 win over Newcastle was led by Gareth Bale, but Dempsey had an above average match just missing a low driven cross in the opening minute. With the weekend results, the Spurs still sit in fourth place, one point back of Chelsea.
Aston Villa were able to move out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over West Ham. Brad Guzan was stellar making two great saves in stoppage time to preserve the win. Eric Lichaj was not in the 18. The win moves Villa one point clear of Reading who fell to Stoke City. Geoff Cameron earned a yellow in just six minutes of action for Stoke.
Tim Howard and Everton were under attack early against Manchester United. The Everton defense was unable to keep up with the Man U attack putting them down one after only 13 minutes of play. Robin Van Persie scored before halftime as he got around Howard off a slick pass. Everton were flat in the second half and are now six points back of the top four.
In Germany Timmy Chandler rebounded from his poor effort in the middle of the week to help Nürnberg to a scoreless draw against Eintracht Frankfürt. Chandler went the distance in the match. For Hoffenheim a 1-0 loss means they are still firmly planted in the relegation zone. Fabian Johnson went the full 90 as Danny Williams saw 12 minutes of playing time. Jermaine Jones and Schalke continued to struggle as they fell 4-0 to Bayern Munich. It was a tall order and Jones played a good match, but the attack was just too much for the Schalke 04.
Michaael Parkhurst made his Bundesliga debut today for Augsburg after an injury. The match against Mainz ended 1-1 with Parkhurst going 47 minutes. U.S. eligible forward Shawn Parker was given a red in the first half for Mainz. Parkhurst sent in a few good crosses and almost caught the keeper sleeping from distance. It was a good showing for Parkhurst.
In 2.Bundesliga Bobby Wood had a great game with a goal and an assist for 1860 Munich as they won 3-1 over Duisberg. Match highlights are below.
