Morning Aggregate: Heather Mitts Retires, Gold Cup Schedule

U.S. Women’s National Team defender Heather Mitts announced her retirement through social media yesterday.  In the release Mitts thanked many people or organizations and said she will miss the little things.  She also noted that she will be joining the Philadelphia Union as a sideline analyst.  She affirmed her membership in the “old ladies club” with Christie Rampone and Shannon Boxx.  Mitts is a graduate of the University of Florida and played professionally for the Philadelphia Charge, Boston Breakers, Philadelphia Independence and Atlanta Beat.  She is a three-time gold medal winner with two international goals.  Both of those goals happen to be game winners.

Mitts has worked for ESPN for the World Cup and the MLS during the 2005 season.  She has a degree in the communications field of advertising as well.  We wish her well in her future endeavors and even extended an offer to her to join us as a contributing writer.  We can only hope.

News and Notes:

Roy Miller says he encroached on the penalty kick against San Jose last weekend on purpose.  What kind of thinking is that exactly?

It looks like Sporting KC’s third jersey has leaked.  Pretty sweet look.
