Morning Aggregate: U.S. Women Vs Netherlands, NWSL Opening Day Rosters

The United States Women’s National Team wraps up its short stint in Europe as they face the Netherlands at Kyocera Stadium today.  The match follows up a 3-3 draw with Germany after giving up a two goal lead twice.  The big story line continues to be Abby Wambach’s chase of Mia Hamm’s international goal total.  Wambach sits at 155, just three behind Hamm.  The venue in The Hague is the home to Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, was built in 2007 and seats 15,000 fans.  The match begins at 1 pm ET and can be viewed on ESPN3.com.

This is the last international match before the beginning of the National Women’s Soccer League.  FC Kansas City takes on Portland Thorns FC on April 13th to open the season.  With the season approaching many of the teams are announcing their opening day roster.  The Thorns are led by Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair.  Tobin Heath is not on the roster as she is expected to join the squad after her contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs out.  The Thorns second round draft pick Nicolette Radovcic was waived.

FC Kansas City narrowed down their 18 woman roster from 30 players in training camp.  Becky Sauerbrunn and Lauren Cheney bring the veteran presence while Kristie Mewis nd Desiree Scott should hold down the midfield.  The Boston Breakers are lead by Sydney Leroux and Heather O’Reilly.  Boston’s top pick, Casey Short, is out with a torn ACL.

The Chicago Red Stars roster features Shannon Boxx and Erin McLeod along with top pick Zakiya Bywaters.  Lori Chalupny leads the free agent signees while Inka Grings should join the team in May. The Western New York Flash are the last team that officially announced a roster via press release yesterday.   Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd lead the six allocated to the Flash.

Although not all teams put out a release, here are all the rosters.

New England Revolution defender Kevin Alston has been diagnosed with a rare, but treatable form of Leukemia.   Alston will be taking a leave of absence from the team.  We wish Mr. Alston the best in his treatment and recovery.  You can send well wishes via email to [email protected] or tag Twitter with #GetWellKA.
