Folarin Balogun has really announced himself to a wider soccer audience this World Cup. USMNT supporters knew of his talents, and so too did viewers of Ligue 1. Premier League fans never got to see much of Balogun as he made just two appearances in the division for Arsenal.
Balogun's brace against Paraguay was followed by an assist in their win over Australia. Top clubs across Europe will be taking note of his performances. This could lead to a potential transfer from AS Monaco after the World Cup.
3 potential landing spots for Folarin Balogun after the World Cup
Aston Villa
Balogun has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa. Unai Emery's side appears to be the best fit as they are in the Champions League next season. Balogun will want to continue playing in European soccer's premier competition.
Whilst he is a USMNT international, Balogun grew up in England and represented the Three Lions up to the Under-21 level. Therefore, a return to English soccer would be fitting. One concern about joining Villa would be that he may initially be the second choice to Ollie Watkins. Balogun, at 24 years old, is six years junior to Watkins, so he could be his long-term replacement at Villa.
Inter Milan
The USMNT striker will have ambitions of winning major silverware. Inter Milan has just won Serie A, and Balogun can expect to win trophies with the Italian side.
After his impressive loan spell at Stade de Reims, Balogun was linked with multiple Serie A sides. He eventually ended up at Monaco, but Inter could still be an option for him. Inter does have Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram to compete with for a starting spot.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund has a track record of developing young players and then selling them on to bigger clubs. Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, and Jadon Sancho all had spells at the Bundesliga sides before progressing to the biggest clubs in the world.
Perhaps if Balogun were to join a real giant of soccer right now, he may not start every week. He would expect to get game time at Dortmund, and then a move to a bigger team could come further down the line.
Dortmund's current striker, Serhou Guirassy, is expected to leave the club this summer, with teams such as Barcelona interested. Therefore, Balogun could be the perfect replacement for the Guinea international.
