Alejandro Zendejas has been in fine form for Club America this season, which could lead to him making the USMNT World Cup roster. There would be multiple winners and sore losers should this be the case.
3 winners if Alejandro Zendejas makes the USMNT roster this World Cup
Alejandro Zendajas
It is a dream for players to go to a World Cup, and for Zendejas, it would be some achievement to make Mauricio Pochettino's roster. He currently has 13 caps for the USMNT, with three goals and one assist.
Zendejas has not played for the USMNT since September of last year. Therefore, he would not have been expecting the call-up.
The USMNT
The USMNT would gain a very talented player who would enter the tournament in good form. This season for Club America, Zendejas scored 12 goals with 7 assists in 33 games in all competitions.
Zendejas would be useful to Pochettino at the tournament as he is so versatile. He is predominantly a right-winger but can play across the front line and in midfield.
Club America
It would be great for Club America to have Zendejas go to the World Cup. It would give credit to their manager, André Jardine, for having one of his players at the tournament.
Club America could have multiple players at the World Cup, including Israel Reyes of Mexico, plus SebastiĂ¡n CĂ¡ceres and Brian RodrĂguez for Uruguay.

Mexico
Zendejas has a controversial history in international soccer. He was born in Mexico, but moved to the United States when he was young. He represented the U.S. at the Under-15 and U-17 levels before playing for Mexico's U-23s and then their senior side.
The winger played twice for El Tri before switching allegiance to the USMNT. Mexico could see what they are missing at the World Cup if Zendejas stars for them at the tournament.
Fringe USMNT players
If Zendejas is included in the roster, then it could be at the expense of a player such as Gio Reyna, Max Arfstan, or Brendan Aaronson. Pochettino can only take 26 players to the World Cup, so someone may have to miss out.
Reyna has not been on the best this season and continues to lack game time at Borussia Monchengladbach. Aaronson has helped Leeds United to safety in the Premier League this campaign, so his position in the side should be safe. Arfstan could be sweating about his position as he is playing in MLS and not in Europe.
Christian Pulisic, who is almost a nailed-on starter for the USMNT due to his star status, may also feel the pressure of Zendejas' involvement. Both favor playing on the wing, and Pulisic is not in form at AC Milan.
Eurosnobs
There is no doubt that competing in Europe is at a far higher level than North American soccer. However, Pochettino has valued players getting game time and performing over which division they are in.
Pochettino has used multiple MLS players since being the USMNT head coach, including Matt Turner, Tim Ream, and Diego Luna. The Argentine has also played Zendejas twice in his tenure, and the player even scored in a friendly against Japan.
There is a snobbery amongst supporters that they do not rate soccer in North America. These fans would rather watch European games on TV instead of heading to watch a local MLS game. Whilst Zendejas is playing in Liga MX, he came through the ranks at FC Dallas. Eurosnobs may not like it if Zendejas gets called up to the USMNT at the expense of a player competing in Europe.
