It is now just over a year until the FIFA Women's World Cup will kick off in Brazil, with the United States hoping to add a fifth star to their crest on 25 July 2027. Ahead of the tournament, Emma Hayes' side will get a flavour of what Brazil has to offer with a pair of friendlies against the co-hosts this week, first in São Paulo on Saturday, before travelling almost 2,000 miles north for a rematch in Fortaleza on Tuesday.
These two nations have met five times in just over three years and, by the end of this two-game series, the U.S. will only have faced Canada, China PR and Norway more frequently. These are two of the strongest sides on the planet, setting up a pair of intriguing fixtures.

Brazil vs United States match preview
As already noted, Brazil and the United States are familiar foes. The pair met in a friendly double header in California just 14 months ago, with the Stars and Stripes 2-0 winners at SoFi Stadium. Three days later however, despite the fact that Catarina Macario broke the deadlock inside 60 seconds, Amanda Gutierres struck in stoppage time to snatch a 2-1 victory for the visitors.
Back in 2024, the duo clashed twice in major finals, with the U.S. prevailing both times. First, Lindsey Heaps was the only scorer in the CONCACAF W Gold Cup Final in San Diego, before another 1-0 victory in the Olympic Gold Medal match in Paris, this time Mallory Swanson the hero at Parc des Princes. Nevertheless, this all underlines that their encounters are always close.
So, what have USA been up to more recently? Well, last time out in April, Emma Hayes' took on Japan in a triple-header of friendlies. She deployed her A-team for the games in San Jose and Denver, enjoying 2-1 and 3-0 wins, with the Nadeshiko 1-0 victors in Seattle against Hayes' back-ups.
Since beating Brazil at the Olympics, all 30 of the USA's fixtures have been friendlies, but this is a rare one on the road; since November 2021, of their 59 friendlies, 53 have been at home. The Stars and Stripes will finally return to competitive action in November with the CONCACAF W Championship, facing El Salvador in Texas for a place at the World Cup.
Well, Brazil currently find themselves in a similar boat. They are not involved in the first-ever CONMEBOL Liga de Naciones, having qualified for the World Cup as hosts. Arthur Elias' side won yet another Copa América Femenina last August; there have been nine editions of the tournament, with Brazil winning eight of them, including each of the last five.
Since, the Seleção have continued to enjoy largely impressive results in friendlies, claiming away wins over England, Italy and Portugal last year. In April, they won all three FIFA Series matches in Cuiabá, hammering both Korea Republic and Zambia, before Aline Gomes was the only scorer against Canada. In summary, these two sides will both have aspirations of winning the World Cup in 12 months ago, setting up a competitive clash at Arena Corinthians on Saturday.
