This is the second of two friendlies between these two international heavyweights and, if you're of a United States persuasion, you'll be hoping for a different outcome. On Saturday, the U.S. broke the deadlock inside 100 seconds, with Sophia Wilson's long-range strike finding the bottom corner. Letícia Izidoro barely even saw it. This was her first goal for the U.S. since October 2024, after giving birth to a daughter last September.
However, American joy was short lived. By the 14th minute, Brazil had turned the game around and led 2-1, thanks to quick-fire goals from Tainá Maranhão and then Bia Zaneratto. Despite the fact Emma Hayes' side ended the evening having attempted 14 shots, accumulating an xG figure of 1.16, 2-1 is how it ended at Arena Corinthians. Both teams will now make the 1,400 mile journey north from São Paulo to Fortaleza, giving the United States a flavour of what is to come at next summer's World Cup in Brazil, but will this rematch at Arena Castelão produce the same outcome?

Brazil vs United States match preview
As already outlined, the United States were beaten 2-1 by Brazil in São Paulo at the weekend, determined to claim a better result this time. The Stars and Stripes have not lost back-to-back fixtures since a sequence of three successive loses, against England, Spain and Germany, in the autumn of 2023, during Vlatko Andonovski's very unsuccessful tenure. Against non-European opposition, the USA have never lost back-to-back fixtures.
However, Brazil have proved tricky opponents in the recent past. The U.S. beat the Seleção in two finals in 2024, albeit both finished 1-0, prevailing in the CONCACAF W Gold Cup Final in San Diego, as well as the Olympic gold medal match in Paris five months later. Prior to Saturday, their last clash was a friendly in San Jose in April 2025, a match the visitors won 2-1, thanks to Amanda Gutierres' goal in injury time. Brazil have now won five of 44 clashes with USA, but are targeting three in a row.
Arthur Elias' side are stuck playing friendlies right now, considering they have already qualified for next summer's World Cup as hosts. During the last international window, Brazil won all three matches, crushing Korea Republic and Zambia, before a hard-fought win over Canada. So, after an ignominious group stage exit in 2023, the Seleção appear well placed to make a deep run as hosts.
Similarly, since reclaiming Olympic gold at the Parc des Princes almost two years ago, Emma Hayes' side have played 29 matches, all of which have been friendlies. They will finally return to competitive action in November when the CONCACAF W Championship commences, facing El Salvador in Texas for a spot at the World Cup. Nevertheless, competitive friendlies against high-quality opponents is what this team needs. Thus, this clash on Tuesday night at Arena Castelão promises to be just that, so can the United States end their current losing streak against Brazil?
