Red Bull New York forward Julian Hall received the call of a lifetime Thursday, earning his first opportunity to play for the U.S. Men's National Team. As grateful as he was to hear his name selected as part of Mauricio Pochettino's first post-World Cup squad, Hall reiterated that his allegiance is far from cemented. The star teenager was one of 12 youth players named to their first USMNT roster, but told the New York Post he is still considering his Polish side.

Why is Hall considering Poland?
Hall was born in New York City but holds dual citizenship through his Polish mother. He has competed for the U.S. at the youth level but has participated in Polish youth camps. Since this is his first senior call-up, he is not cap-tied and is still eligible to play for Poland. Even if he plays during the upcoming window, since they are friendlies, he still won't be cap-tied to the U.S. He is clearly proud of his heritage, as he has worn his middle name "Zakrzewski" on his shirt in multiple appearances.
Poland might present the more immediate option for playing time when Robert Lewandowski retires, but the acknowledgement from Pochettino must hold some weight. The USMNT (16) holds a higher FIFA ranking than Poland (36), so Hall would be joining a superior team should he choose to stay home.
Hall said both teams are still contacting him about his future, and the18-year-old is being careful with his options. He has yet to score since the MLS season resumed after the World Cup, and these upcoming four matches with the USMNT serve as his opportunity to get back on track. There is no true second striker behind Folarin Balogun, and Hall could jump Ricardo Pepi or Haji Wright on the depth chart with a strong performance in camp.
On the heels of losing Noahkai Banks to Germany, Hall is now arguably the top uncommitted dual national in the USMNT pool. Hopefully, Hall avoids the drama that accompanied Banks' decision. Either way, Hall's situation is a good reminder that recruiting dual nationals can be a tricky business but is an important part of Pochettino's mission and the USMNT's success.
