Newly extended Mauricio Pochettino already has his sights set on the next World Cup, and to be fully prepared, the process is already underway. The USMNT coach spoke to reporters Monday about a variety of topics, including dual-nationals and his plans for the upcoming international break.
What were the takeaways?
Pochettino talked about contacting dual-national players like Noahkai Banks, but no decisions have officially been made about any of those players. He also spoke at length about players needing to stay humble, especially young players.

This looks to be in clear regard to Cavan Sullivan, the ascending Philadelphia Union talent. The 16-year-old has scored in each of his last three MLS matches and continues to look like the talent American soccer fans have been waiting for. Sullivan recently went on U.S. soccer legend Alexi Lalas' 'State of the Union' podcast and said he would have made an impact against Belgium in the Round of 16.

Pochettino said on Monday, "We are watching everything, we are seeing everything," and it appears the Argentine coach was speaking about matters both on and off the pitch. Sullivan is a game-changing talent, but must not fall into the trap of hyped stars who never reach their full potential.
Who will get called up?
Pochettino was mum about anyone specifically being called up, but mentioned there would be a mix of veteran and young players in the upcoming September roster. Balance will be critical to prioritize not only the 2030 World Cup, but also the Summer Olympics in 2028. That competition will feature the U-23 squad, so integrating young players into the senior club will better prepare them for those matches.
Fans can suspect that Cavan Sullivan will be one of those young players given Pochettino's comments, but there are other names that might soon be learned. One is Sullivan's teammate, six-foot-seven defender Neil Pierre, who could quickly rise to the top of a shaky center-back room. Another is Julian Hall, the 18-year-old NY Red Bulls forward who could find himself on the roster with other forwards like Folarin Balogun unlikely to make the trip.
An official roster announcement should come in the next week. Regardless of whose name is on the list, it is a promising sign to see Pochettino so invested in the next wave of American talent.
