Miles Robinson: a USMNT veteran and a household name on home soil

While injuries have hindered Miles Robinson's involvement with the USMNT and at the domestic level, he has nonetheless represented a significant part of the national team's success over the past several years.

Miles Robinson has long been associated with the USMNT, and his involvement has spanned multiple eras of the national team. His emergence and early success came under ex-USMNT/current Chicago Fire manager Gregg Berhalter, and his renewed post-injury form came with Mauricio Pochettino guiding the ship.

Robinson started his career in and around his hometown

A good portion of Robinson's early career was situated in Boston and the suburb of Arlington, where he was raised. But it wasn't necessarily soccer that occupied all of Robinson's interest. In fact, Robinson was a multi-sport athlete during his childhood, having played both soccer and basketball. He played basketball at Arlington High School and youth soccer with FC Boston Bolts.

He returned to FC Boston Bolts through their semi-pro program after his college soccer career, which he spent at Syracuse University. Robinson was an instant star with the Orange, helping to guide the program to its first-ever College Cup as a freshman in 2015. He played just two seasons in college, but left a lasting impact on the program before turning pro.

From Atlanta United to FC Cincinnati

After being selected by Atlanta United in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, their first since joining MLS, Robinson would spend the better part of seven seasons with the club, making 150 total appearances. He was part of the Atlanta United side that won MLS Cup back in 2018, but injuries kept him out of a good portion of the club's additional ventures.

His stint with Atlanta United ended after the 2023 season; he would sign with FC Cincinnati prior to the following campaign. To date, Robinson has made just shy of 100 total appearances with the club; those include seven MLS Cup Playoff games and 10 CONCACAF Champions Cup appearances.

Miles Robinson and the USMNT

Robinson has been involved with the USMNT for the past seven years, though his involvement with the United States soccer system as a whole extends beyond the last decade. That involvement includes appearances for three different youth teams.

His senior team debut came in 2019 against Mexico, though an injury and a certain pandemic meant he would not see any international involvement for almost 18 months. That said, his return to the USMNT preceded a period that saw the team win the 2021 Gold Cup, in which Robinson scored the game-winning goal, and return to the World Cup after a humiliating 2018 qualifying period.

Injuries would once again hurt Robinson's international career prior to the 2022 World Cup. But he would be undeterred, making the USMNT roster for their home World Cup in 2026 and getting a start against Turkiye during the group stage. Given his experience with over 40 international caps under his belt, Robinson still has plenty left to contribute to the national team.
