The USA must turn towards who knows best to beat Belgium... Scott Steiner

The USMNT is heading to the Round of 16, in part thanks to some Steiner Math.

If you are a pro wrestling fan, the name Scott Steiner will invoke one infamous promo where he laid out his "Steiner Math." Known as Big Poppa Pump, Steiner went on a tirade before an upcoming pay-per-view:

"You know they say that all men are created equal, but you look at me and you look at Samoa Joe and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another wrestler, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, at beat me. Then you add Kurt Angle to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down. See the 3 way at Sacrifice, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but I, I got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Kurt Angle KNOWS he can't beat me and he's not even gonna try!"

It gets even crazier from there, and if you want to see if it actually worked out mathematically, click here. And now that the USMNT has won, Steiner broke out the Steiner Math one more time:

But even with Big Poppa Pump crunching the numbers in our favor after a massive group stage finale, the reality of this World Cup run just got a lot more complicated, thanks to a controversial red card.

Folarin Balogun's red card highlights VAR issue as Messi goes unpunished

Watch the replay below, and you tell me where Balogun's foot is supposed to go to avoid the challenge from the Bosnian player:

And then look at the play from Lionel Messi being discussed on ESPN:

Nothing was given there, and yet Balogun is now going to miss the Round of 16 game, in part because of a flawed call.

To make matters worse, it appears the rules of the game were violated. According to IFAB, VAR only allows slow-motion replays for factual issues like who committed the foul, not tackling intensity. But as you can see from the feed above, they used several slow-motion shots to help overturn a call that wasn't deemed a yellow on the field.

The boys put in an epic shift last night, though. They not only held on to the 1-0 lead, but they built on it with an amazing free kick from Malik Tillman to win Dos a cero. They showed the grit and fire that a host nation should show. And now they will have to dig even deeper in 5 days against a familiar opponent.

The US now gets ready for Belgium, who boatraced the USMNT 5-2 back in March. And they will have to do it without the 8th highest-scoring player of the World Cup. But hey, Steiner Math is never wrong.

Kickoff is set for 8 PM Monday in what will be an electric night in a fully raucous, soccer-crazed Seattle.
