The second international break of the season is looming, which means that another major measuring stick is coming with regard to the overall picture in the 2026-27 Championship. Here's how each of the Championship clubs with USMNT players performed during the last matchday of action.
Jack McGlynn's scoring form continues as Stoke City defeats Blackburn Rovers
Stoke City might very well be a team to watch when it comes to the race for automatic promotion. And with Middlesbrough leading the way in the Championship, there is a chance that two clubs with USMNT players could lead the division's standings heading into the next international break. A 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers brought Stoke City to 26 points on the season, just two shy of Middlesbrough's league-leading count. Jack McGlynn got Stoke City on the board in the 43rd minute from a spectacular free kick that was truly a thing of beauty.

Caleb Wiley is back on the pitch, but Preston's struggles remain
Having missed a significant portion of the early part of the 2026-27 Championship campaign, Caleb Wiley finally made his return to the pitch against Sheffield United.
At first, it seemed that his return helped Preston regain some confidence. But the early momentum soon dissipated as Sheffield United built a 3-1 halftime lead, with the final result being a 3-2 victory for Sheffield United. Wiley came on in the second half of the contest and played the remaining 45 minutes.
Second-half performance haunts West Brom in draw with Southampton
West Brom might be unbeaten in their last five matches, but it could very well have been four wins over that span. The Baggies couldn't hold onto a 1-0 lead, with Southampton coming back for a 1-1 draw. George Campbell got the start for West Brom, but he had to be subbed off at halftime because of an injury. For the moment, he's part of the USMNT November roster, but it's possible he will need to be replaced.
Middlesbrough's attempt at a draw ends in a late win for Wrexham
For the first time in this Championship campaign, Middlesbrough has been held off the scoresheet. Though the club got close to securing a result, two late goals from Wrexham condemned Middlesbrough to a 2-0 defeat, which represented just the third loss all season for the club.
Sebastian Berhalter and Aidan Morris got the start in the midfield. The former played an hour before being taken off, while the latter played the entirety of the contest. Max Arfsten came on in the 60th minute and played the remainder of the contest.
What's next?
Not only will the next round of Championship matches conclude the first third of the 2026-27 campaign, but it will also be the last prior to the final international break of the year.
McGlynn and Stoke City will play a Portsmouth side that has pieced together a six-match unbeaten run. With Wiley back, Preston North End has a home contest against Southampton, who are also unbeaten in their last six games.
Hopefully, Campbell will be able to lead West Brom when they host a Millwall side that has lost three of their last five and tumbled down to the middle of the Championship table. Finally, the American brigade from Middlesbrough will travel to play a Watford team that is just four points above the relegation zone.
