A core piece of the USMNT's recent success will be honored ahead of the USMNT's match against Chile in St. Louis.
Tim Ream, who captained the USMNT at their home World Cup this past summer, will be recognized for his contributions to the national team during a pre-match ceremony. The recognition comes even though he was not named to the USMNT roster for the September-October window, and he hasn't retired from international duty following the conclusion of the USMNT's run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Charlotte FC defender spent a lot of his life and early career in St. Louis. Not only was he born in St. Louis, but he also played NCAA soccer for the St. Louis Billikens for three years.
Ream's club career started out in MLS; he was drafted by Red Bull New York during the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. He then spent a combined 12 years in the English football system, splitting that time between Bolton Wanderers and Fulham. Since that stay in England, Ream joined MLS side Charlotte FC, helping to guide them to consecutive appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Ream's USMNT career
Ream made his USMNT debut in 2010, earning a start in what was a 1-0 win against South Africa.
While Ream spent well over 15 years with the USMNT, he only appeared in two of the three World Cups that the USMNT took part in since his debut in late 2010. Ream was not called up for the USMNT's appearance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which saw the USMNT finish second in a group that featured Germany and Portugal, and the United States didn't even qualify for the 2018 edition. That meant that Ream's World Cup debut would not take place until the 2022 tournament, which saw the USMNT go unbeaten through group play before exiting the World Cup in the Round of 16.
At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ream helped the USMNT finish first in a group that featured Australia, Türkiye, and Paraguay; he played in the Australia and Paraguay contests but sat out against Türkiye as the USMNT had already progressed to the Round of 32, where they would (controversially) eliminate a determined Bosnia and Herzegovina side. The USMNT ultimately exited the World Cup in the Round of 16 against Belgium, losing 4-1 in Seattle.
Ream won two editions of the CONCACAF Nations League with the USMNT; he also took part in the 2011 and 2015 editions of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, in addition to the 2016 Copa América.
