The 2026-27 Championship season has officially entered its second quarter. As that happened, one club with USMNT players continued its dominance in the second division, while two others saw points slip out of their control.

Here's how the USMNT did in the 12th matchday of the 2026-27 Championship.

Aidan Morris kicks off a blowout win for Middlesbrough in road contest against Bolton

Aidan Morris' ability to find consistent starts for a Middlesbrough side that also fields Sebastian Berhalter and Max Arfsten keeps him in the USMNT conversation, though generally as a borderline option. His performance against Bolton? With around a week before talk surrounding the USMNT's CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal against Haiti really begins to ramp up, Morris' performance on Friday should help him get a little closer to an appearance for the national team.

Morris scored the opening goal in what was a 5-1 victory. He recorded an additional shot on target and another complete game. Both Sebastian Berhalter and Max Arfsten joined Morris on the pitch, though Berhalter only recorded one shot on target. Arfsten only came on as a substitute, recording 22 minutes of action during the game.

West Brom salvages point against 24th-place Preston North End

For the first time in two weeks, West Brom has dropped points. Having enjoyed a resurgence of sorts to get into the playoff spots, West Brom found themselves forced to rescue a 1-1 draw against a Preston North End side that has struggled to get out of the relegation zone. USMNT defender George Campbell played the full 90 minutes, recording a tackle during his stint on the pitch.

Stoke City gets result against Bristol City, but slips outside of the playoff spots

Despite getting a point in what was a 0-0 draw against Bristol City, Stoke City could not maintain control of a spot in the top eight of the Championship table. A 5-0 win for QPR against Swansea saw control of the last spot change hands upon conclusion of the matchday. Both Luca Bombino and Jack McGlynn started the match. The former did not record an attacking contribution, while the latter had just one shot on target.

What's next?

It's Halloween next week!

First up, McGlynn and Bombino lead Stoke City, who hope to avoid the trap game that West Brom fell victim to this weekend. They'll be hosting Preston North End in one of the 8:30 a.m. contests.

At 11:00 a.m., Campbell captains West Brom, which will travel to London to play a West Ham side that just saw their four-game unbeaten run ended by Southampton (in Championship play, that run is four matches longer).

At the same time, the USMNT contingent at Middlesbrough will hope they don't drop points against a Charlton side that has seen their positive start to the season wiped off the board. They've picked up just two points in their last five games, and they haven't won a game in two months (insert the Rebecca Welton "are we ever going to win another match" meme here).
