It's been a sluggish start to the season for Americans in the Premier League. Several of the notable USMNT players suffered defeats in their season opener, and things didn't get much better during the second weekend of the season. Still, a promising American youngster reached a milestone, while there were notable performances from the USMNT veterans. Let's take a look at match day 2 from a USMNT perspective.
Chris Richards, Crystal Palace
Richards and Crystal Palace had a rough Friday night against Manchester City. He got beaten in the air on City’s first goal, albeit by Erling Haaland. Things didn’t get much better after that, with Palace losing 4-1 in a game that Richards would prefer to forget. It hasn't been the best start to the season for Richards, but there is no need to panic.
Zavier Gozo, Crystal Palace
The silver lining of Palace’s loss to Man City was that Gozo made his Premier League debut. While yet to make his USMNT debut, the 19-year-old came on in the 68th minute, getting 22 minutes of action on the left wing. Palace was already down 3-1 when he came into the game, so he couldn’t make much of an impact. Nevertheless, getting his feet wet in the Premier League is a big step for the teenager.

Antonee Robinson, Fulham
Robinson couldn’t prevent Fulham from losing its second straight game to open the Premier League season. The USMNT’s top-choice left back did get forward a few times, but the final product wasn’t there on his crosses into the box. Robinson played all 90 minutes, something he didn’t do in Fulham’s opener. But the Cottagers suffered a 1-0 road loss to Sunderland.
Tyler Adams, Bournemouth
For the second straight Premier League game, Adams came off the bench, hoping to help Bournemouth protect a 1-0 lead. Alas, those plans went awry for a second straight week. Adams put in a decent shift after coming on in the 69th minute and wasn’t to blame for the goal. But the Cherries gave up a stoppage-time equalizer to Everton, settling for a 1-1 draw.
Brenden Aaronson, Leeds United
Leeds spent most of the first half pushed back in its own end, giving Aaronson little time to get on the ball and get forward. However, his industrious nature did make him a good fit to handle the pressure from a Brentford side that’s looked excellent early in the season. That being said, Aaronson was one of two players subbed off at halftime, with Leeds shaking things up, ultimately settling for a 1-1 draw.
