Tim Weah is one of the leaders of the USMNT ahead of the 2026 World Cup on home soil as he should take part in Mauricio Pochetino's squad. Since joining the Olympique de Marseille on loan last summer, the full-back/winger has been a key element of the team coached by Roberto De Zerbi and then Habib Beye.

Who is Tim Weah?

Tim Weah is the son of the legendary George Weah, the former Liberia President is one of the most important African footballers in history as he is the only African player to have won the Ballon d'Or. As for Tim, he grew up in New York, training with local clubs including Rosedale SC and New York Red Bulls academy before joining the French capital and PSG at 14, walking in the footsteps of his father.

After signing his first professional contract in 2017, he made his debut for PSG in 2018, at 18-year-old. The same year, he debuted for the USMNT and became a key player of the squad, featuring in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored against Wales.

Since the start of his career, he has gained valuable experience playing at the highest in different leagues across Europe where he won several titles, including domestic competitions with Juventus, Lille LOSC, Celtic and PSG.

Tim Weah has played in several leagues across Europe, including Serie A, Scottish Premiership and Ligue 1 where he spent most of his career. He came through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain and made six appearances with the first team.

He then joined Scotland and Celtic on loan to gain experience at the highest level where he won a domestic double before making the move to Lille where he took part in their 2020-2021 Ligue 1 title-winning campaign. In total, he featured in 107 games for the Dogues in five seasons.

In 2023, he joined Italian giants Juventus and USMNT teammates Weston McKennie. In his time in Italy, he made 78 appearances and won the Coppa Italia in 2023-2024. By 2025, he made his return to Ligue 1, joining the south of France and Marseille on loan with an option to buy.

At 26, Tim Weah is an extremely versatile player, capable of playing on both wings as a full-back or winger. Additionally, his pace and technical skills make him a constant threat to the opponents when going forward.

Alongside Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams, Weah is part of the new generation of American footballers succeeding in top European leagues.

Despite making his debut for the national team in 2018, he has featured in just 49 games, which limited his impact on the team. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old is one of the key players of this USMNT team as they gear up for the upcoming World Cup on home-soil.
