Years | Teams |
|---|---|
2016–2019 | New York Red Bulls |
2019–2022 | RB Leipzig |
2022-2023 | Leeds United |
2023- | AFC Bournemouth |
Tyler Adams rose through the New York Red Bulls academy to break into the MLS side, becoming a regular under Jesse Marsch in 2017 before earning a move to Europe.
He joined RB Leipzig, where he developed into a key midfielder, playing a central role in their rise domestically and in Europe, winning the DFB-Pokal and reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Those performances prompted Leeds United to invest heavily in him as a replacement for Kalvin Phillips. Alongside players like Raphinha and Weston McKennie, he helped the club secure Premier League survival in their first season back.
Relegation and injuries disrupted the following campaign, but Adams remained in the top flight with a move to AFC Bournemouth in August 2023. Although injuries have limited his appearances, he has proven an important presence whenever he takes the field.
Tyler Adams' playing style and USMNT stats
Tyler Adams is widely praised for his work rate, intelligence, and leadership rather than flair. His former coach, Jesse Marsch, once described him as a player who “sets the tone” with his pressing and energy.
USMNT appearances | USMNT goals | USMNT assists |
|---|---|---|
52 | 2 | 1 |
At AFC Bournemouth and with the USMNT, he has showcased a relentless engine and a sharp ability to break up play, shielding the defence and disrupting opposition rhythm. His distribution is typically simple but effective, quickly moving the ball on to launch counter attacks.
That same role carries over internationally, where he will aim to help the USMNT compete against sides like Paraguay and Turkey in the World Cup group stages. Alongside midfielders such as Tanner Tessmann and Johnny Cardoso, Adams provides the platform for attacking talents like Christian Pulisic, Folarin Balogun, and Brenden Aaronson to thrive.
As the Stars and Stripes prepare to host the World Cup, the biggest question is whether he can remain fit until selection and 13 June.
