It has already been an historic World Cup run for the United States, but can they turn a decent tournament into an historic run? USA are seeking to reach a first World Cup quarter-final for 24 years, having fallen in the round of 16 in 2010, 2014 and 2022 subsequently. To get there, Mauricio Pochettino's team will need to overcome Belgium, but they certainly believe that victory is possible.

United States vs Belgium match preview
The United States certainly kick off as underdogs, but there are reasons for optimism. On Wednesday, the Stars and Stripes beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-0 at Levi's Stadium, thanks to goals from Folarin Balogun and then Malik Tillman. It was then confirmed on Sunday that, despite his red card in Santa Clara, Balogun would serve his suspension at a later date. No one quite knows how FIFA came to this decision, but it is obviously a huge boost for Mauricio Pochettino and his team.
So, why else should U.S. fans believe? Well, this match is taking place in Seattle, where the United States have won all seven competition matches to date, their best record in any city, most recently beating Australia 2-0 in the Pacific Northwest during the group phase. Victory over Bosnia was also their first win against European opposition at a World Cup since beating Portugal in 2002, now believing they are capable of overcoming an even tougher test.
Furthermore, Belgium have been very underwhelming so far this summer. Rudi Garcia's team were forecast to cruise to top spot in their group, but only drew with Egypt and Iran, before an emphatic victory over a very poor New Zealand. Then, in their last 32 tie, the Red Devils were abject for long periods, but still somehow managed to beat Senegal.
Late goals from Romelu Lukaku and then Youri Tielemans forced extra time, a comeback out of nowhere, before Tielemans converted a penalty in the 125th minute, the latest goals in World Cup history. This was Belgium's first competitive victory over a team in the top 20 of the FIFA rankings for five years, ending a sequence of 12 matches, underlining that they are beatable. So, will Lumen Field witness one of the most famous night's in U.S. men's soccer history?
Prediction: United States 2-1 Belgium
