USMNT youngsters look the part in friendly win over Peru

From the time the roster was released for the USMNT's four friendlies in September and October, it was clear that this international window was all about the development and progress of young players. In the first of those four games, the young Americans who got their chance didn't disappoint.

It wasn't the easiest game for Mauricio Pochettino's squad. Peru is a veteran team that was unafraid to get physical with the youthful American squad. But after the Peruvians kept the game level at 1-1 beyond the 60th minute, the USMNT seized control with two goals in the final 25 minutes to earn a 4-1 win.

While it was a total group effort, some of the USMNT youngsters made the biggest impact. When all was said and done, all eight of the uncapped teenagers got onto the field for their international debut. Each flashed promise, but here are five who stood out the most.

Cavan Sullivan

All eyes were on the 16-year-old, who got the start in his international debut. The biggest highlight of his day may have been picking up a yellow card in the first half. But Sullivan had an otherwise solid performance. Despite his age, he very much looked the part, getting on the ball in a variety of positions and providing good energy and undeniable swagger.

Justin Ellis

Playing in front of his hometown fans in Orlando, Ellis stole the show early. He scored in the 4th minute, getting his head on a beautiful ball from Gio Reyna on a set piece. Ellis continued to solve problems for the Peruvians until he was subbed off in the 62nd minute. While his goal ended up being his only shot on target, the 19-year-old looked like a potential asset for the USMNT.

Peyton Miller

Along with Sullivan and Ellis, Miller was the third uncapped player to start against Peru. He showed off his speed and offensive prowess early in the game, getting down the left wing and sending a brilliant ball into the box that Malik Tillman couldn't finish. Defensively, Miller still has work to do, as he was slow to adjust to a cross from the opposite side on Peru's goal. But his speed was impressive, making him a player to watch.

Julian Hall

Making his international debut as a substitute in the 62nd minute, Hall also got on the score sheet. The 18-year-old, who is also eligible for Poland, found the back of the net on a world-class cross from Sebastian Berhalter. He then repaid the favor to Berhalter, getting the assist on the Middlesbrough midfielder's 90th-minute goal that capped off a complete performance by the USMNT and its contingent of young players.

Mathis Albert

Just moments after coming onto the field in the 61st minute, Albert changed the game. He cruised past a defender and drew a foul, giving the USMNT a penalty kick. Granted, if there were VAR, the penalty would have been reversed because Albert was fouled outside the box. But that moment was an indication of the trouble the 17-year-old can cause with his speed, which helped to put the USMNT ahead for good.
