Based on her last name alone, Trinity Rodman is one of the most recognizable women’s soccer players on the planet. She is the daughter of longtime NBA player and Hall of Fame member Dennis Rodman. But she is so much more than just the daughter of a famous athlete. Barely 24 years old, Trinity Rodman is already an Olympic gold medal winner and a key part of the future of the USWNT.
Who is Trinity Rodman?
Trinity Rodman was born and raised in Southern California. Despite having a father who was a pro athlete, she didn’t have an affluent upbringing. Rodman also spent large periods of her childhood estranged from her father, Dennis. Instead, she and her brother, DJ, were raised by their mother.

Rather than following in her father’s footsteps as a basketball player, Trinity Rodman chose soccer. She began playing at age four and had great success as a young player with the SoCal Blues, her club team. After high school, Rodman planned on attending UCLA, but changed her mind at the last minute and joined her brother at Washington State. Unfortunately, the pandemic canceled her freshman season in 2020. Rather than stay in college, Rodman decided to go pro.
Player history
In 2021, Rodman was selected by the Washington Spirit with the second overall pick in the NWSL Draft. At the time, she was the youngest player drafted by an NWSL team. Rodman scored five minutes into her NWSL debut, setting the stage for her to win Rookie of the Year honors and be named to the NWSL Best XI that season. More importantly, she led the Spirit to the NWSL championship as a rookie.
By the end of her rookie season, at age 19, Rodman had established herself as one of the best players in the NWSL. The only thing that has held her back has been a slew of injuries. Rodman missed large chunks of the 2025 season with a back problem and then barely returned for the playoffs after suffering an MCL sprain in October. Even with the injuries, Rodman became the youngest NWSL player to reach 100 appearances, 30 goals, and 20 assists.

Ahead of the 2026 season, there was uncertainty over whether Rodman would remain in the NWSL or leave for a club in Europe. Ultimately, she agreed to a three-year contract to stay with the Spirit. The contract pays Rodman over $2 million per year, making her the highest-paid women’s soccer player in the world.
Position and playing style
Rodman is a forward who typically plays on the wing. Her speed and athleticism make her difficult for defenders to handle one-on-one in space, which is why she typically plays in wide positions.
She’s not afraid to take on defenders, sometimes using her speed to run by them, while other times showcasing her technical skills to beat defenders and create goal-scoring chances. Rodman has a patented spin move that she often employs to change directions and create space to operate.

In front of goal, Rodman is a clinical finisher who possesses a strong right-footed shot. Finally, her work rate and energy off the ball are relentless. She is aggressive when it comes to pressuring defenders into making mistakes with the hope of creating scoring chances in unsettled situations.
USWNT Stats
USWNT Appearances | USWNT Goals | USWNT Assists |
|---|---|---|
55 | 13 | 10 |
By age 24, Rodman already has more than 50 USWNT appearances and more than a dozen goals. Since making her debut during the 2022 SheBelieves Cup, Rodman has been one of the team’s most important players and a virtual lock to be in the starting lineup when healthy. Despite the tournament being a disappointment, Rodman started three of the USWNT’s four games at the 2023 World Cup.
During the 2024 Olympics, Rodman took center stage once again. She started all six games, scoring three goals. Her most important moment when she scored the game-winning goal in extra time of the quarterfinals against Germany, helping the USWNT on their way to winning the gold medal. Even after accomplishing so much already, Rodman will be an integral part of the USWNT’s core for many years to come, including the upcoming 2027 World Cup.
